I created this page to share my path toward understanding the Bible—and the books, commentaries, and habits that helped me along the way. My hope is that these resources make it easier for someone else to begin, stay curious, and keep going.
What worked best for me was simple: hold the book, listen to the audiobook, and follow along. Reading while listening helped me stay focused and absorb what I was studying. There is also something meaningful about holding a physical book—especially a Bible—turning its pages, marking a passage, and returning to it. For me, that creates a connection that listening alone does not always provide.
Dennis Prager’s The Rational Bible became an important starting point. His commentary places explanations alongside the biblical text, helping me slow down and consider the meaning behind what I was reading. Following his books while listening gave me a stronger foundation in the Torah and momentum to continue through the rest of the Bible.
From there, my reading expanded into commentaries on individual biblical books and into literature that explores many of the same questions: faith, pride, suffering, mercy, responsibility, and the consequences of our choices. These works became companions to my study. They offered different perspectives on truths people have wrestled with for centuries—lessons we sometimes recognize only after experiencing hardship ourselves.
Making progress required making time. I committed to at least two hours a day, often two to three. For a while, I set aside news, podcasts, and music so reading and listening could become a daily habit. Sometimes that meant listening in the car. Other times, it meant sitting at the breakfast table before the children woke up or opening a book after they had gone to sleep.
You do not have to begin with my schedule. Begin with time you can consistently protect. Keep a book nearby, pause when something challenges you, write down your questions, and revisit passages that deserve another look.
This collection is a record of what helped me, not a prescribed path everyone must follow. The goal is more than finishing books. It is to understand more deeply, examine our decisions, and carry what we learn into the way we live.
